Spiral Points

HELI-COIL spiral point taps have been designed primarily for the machine tapping of through holes. A spiral point is ground into the lead threads at an angle to the tap axis. This produces a tap with initial left hand flutes having a progressive cutting rake towards the point of the tap.

The swarf produced by this type of tap is pushed ahead of the tap and falls free as it emerges through the hole, thus eliminating the hazards caused by chips accumulating in the flutes during cutting. This type of tap, due to its improved cutting action, is suited to the tapping of precise deep holes in a single pass at very high peripheral speeds.

Spiral Flute Taps

HELI-COIL spiral flute taps have helical flutes that are ground in the same direction as the thread. This feature directs the swarf back out of the hole and makes this design of tap appropriate for the machining of blind holes particularly in materials that produce a continuous chip.
Because they are designed for tapping of blind holes they are manufactured with a bottoming chamfer lead.

Fixing tools is available for all sizes and types of insert, manual tang break punches are the simplest and most commonly used type of tang break-off tool. A sharp blow with a small hammer is normally sufficient for consistent de-tanging of fitted inserts with this type of tool.

HELI-COIL Wire Threaded Inserts are novel and indispencible thread fastening system, provide simple and cost saving for repairing or creating stronger threads. Inserts are precision formed screw thread coils which, when installed into Wire Thread tapped holes, provide permanent and wear resistant thread in parent material i.e. generally stronger than the original thread. The inserts are designed to be greater in diameter than the tapped hole and compress as they are installed. This allows maximum surface contact area with the tapped thread, permanently anchoring the inserts into the place.

The inserts action shares the load over the entire bolt and hole increasing holding or pull out strength. With a Wire Thread Insert in place, load and stress are evenly distributed.

The unique design features of insert offer many benefits for OEMs

HELI-COIL free running inserts have a spring like appearance. When installed using any one of a variety of manual or automatic tools they provide strong permanent internal threads which resist heat and corrosion
